Abstract

Underwater archaeological remains in North Moluccas constitute an important part of Indonesia’s maritime cultural resources. However, their management still faces various challenges, including limited inventory and documentation, weak monitoring systems, and inadequate legal protection. This study aims to analyze the potential and management issues of underwater archaeological through a case study of the Bristol Beaufort aircraft wreck in Morotai Island. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach based on scientific publications, policy documents, and relevant regulations. The findings indicate that the management of underwater archaeological remains requires an integrated model based on Culture Resource Management (CRM), encompassing inventory and documentation, legal protection, community involvement, educational utilization, and sustainable monitoring. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of CRM principles with the characteristics of underwater archaeological remains in North Maluku as a foundation for a more systematic and sustainable management framework.
